It is very sad and unfair that the Egyptian government
should deny the right of the Jews who were born in Egypt to visit their
native land, just because they now live in Israel, after they wereforced to leave Egypt! Why can't they pray at the Synagoguesin Cairo and Alexandria, where they used to pray in the past? The WCJE Board sends its protest and deep regrets to Egypt,
on this sorrowful turn of events. We hope that in the future wewill witness much fairer and better times.
I was ALSO very astonished that Mrs. Weinstein dubbed our
historical and most memorable World Congress of Jews from
Egypt (WCJE - Haifa University , 2006) which gathered 12
organizations of Jews from Egypt from all over the world,
as the "so called" Congress !There were 350 participants at this wonderful 5 days World
Congress - and serious research on the History and
Culture of the Jews of Egypt were presented by more than
30 academics from around the world.I suggested to Mrs. Weinstein to visit our website
to see the details of this most successful Congress, at:
www.iflac.com/wcje and I hope she did, and that she
realised that such fruitful activities to save the heritage
of the Jews from Egypt, should be praised and admired.Following the Congress, an excellent book was published
containing the articles presented at the WCJE, entitled:HISTORY AND CULTURE OF THE JEWS
OF EGYPT IN MODERN TIMESThis illustrious book, published by the WCJE,has been highly and widely praised.Sincerely,Prof. Ada Aharoni
WCJE President
