To: EL AHRAM  WEEKLY – from Prof. Ada Aharoni,

President WCJE: The World Congress of Jews from Egypt.

2 June, þ2008–06–02

In answer to an article in the El Ahram Weekly:

29 May - 4 June 2008

Issue No. 899

Features:  http://weekly.ahram.org.eg/2008/899/feature.htm

In her article: Remembrance of things past (EL AHRAM - 29

May - 4 June 2008 Issue No. 899 Features)

on the cancellation, of Cairo's first conference on Egyptian

Jews, journalist Dina Ezzat writes:

"It has accidentally come to the attention of the Cairo JCC

that Mrs Ada Aharoni and Ms Levana Zamir of Israel are

organising what they dub a 'tour of Cairo and Alexandria by

the Congress of Jews from Egypt'...

This information is not accurate. I (Prof. Ada Aharoni,

President of the WCJE - World Congress of the Jews of

Egypt), had nothing to do with the planning or the

organizing of the above trip, by Mrs. Levana Zamir.

As a sociologist, writer, and researcher on the Jews of

Egypt, I have always held fond memories of my past in Egypt

and of the kind and hospitable Egyptian people, as can be

seen in my books: MEMORIES FROM ALEXANDRIA (Translated into

Arabic by Dr. Mahmoud Abassi), and FROM THE NILE TO THE

JORDAN, www.amazon.com, as well as on the site I direct on

the Jews of Egypt: www.iflac.com/wcje

which you are warmly invited  to visit.

Salamat,

Prof. Ada Aharoni
